Bowling Club Season 2021 Honours

THURGOLAND BOWLING CLUB HONOURS SEASON 2021

Despite many months of closure in 2020 and early 2021, Thurgoland Bowling Club has bounced back this year with a remarkable season and achieved many honours.

BRITISH TEAM HONOURS   Thurgoland qualified to play in the British Team Final played in Shropshire, just losing out at the final hurdle to play in the final. This is the highest team honour in bowling.  Thurgoland had 6 players representing South Yorkshire Parks Veterans in the British inter counties team knockout, defeating Derbyshire in the final.

INDIVIDUAL BRITISH HONOURS  Jacob Parratt, losing finalist Juniors. Jacob qualified by winning the South Yorkshire Junior Merit.   Nigel McDermott, losing finalist Veterans. Nigel qualified as South Yorkshire runner-up. A great achievement by both, playing 5 games each on the day, to lose in the final game.

BARNSLEY TEAM HONOUR  Barnsley vets team winners, beating Barnsley Bowling Club in the final by 18 points.

BARNSLEY INDIVIDUAL HONOURS  Robert Wiltshire was the seniors merit winner, beating Frazier Pickering in the final, both from Thurgoland.  Steve Marshall veteran’s individual winner.

SHEFFIELD PARKS TEAM HONOURS   Kever Wait team doubles knockout winners, defeating Bradfield by 18 points.   Union Street Veterans League winners, this is the top league for vets bowling in Sheffield.  The Thurgoland Saturday C team (newly formed this season) won their league. A great achievement, by a mix of experienced and beginners, how proud they should be.

SHEFFIELD PARKS INDIVIDUAL HONOURS    Veterans individual merit Steve Marshall Thurgoland.                                                                                                        Veterans doubles merit Steve Marshall/Nigel Mcdermott Thurgoland.                                                           Junior singles merit Jacob Parratt Thurgoland.

DEARNE AND DON  Thurgoland ‘A’ winners of the top division.                                                                                                                         Dearne and Don Team Knockout winners.

HOLLINSEND VETERANS  Singles Merit Winner David Mallinson

SUMMARY    The club honours both team and individual has surpassed my wildest dreams, of what can be achieved, by a village bowling club.  Their performance on the green has also been matched by the amazing improvements of our  facilities (with further development planned) and the improved playing surface, down to our dedicated groundsmen Malcolm Foweather.  As always we welcome new members for the new season and look forward to further success next year.  Thanks to all members who have made this possible and I look forward to season 2022.
